Genoa introduces letterboxing

The Greater Genoa Business Association placed four letterboxes in the Town of Genoa to introduce adults and children to letterboxing, an activity that will help them discover and enjoy the historic town and its businesses. Letterboxing combines treasure hunting, navigation, exploring and visiting new places.

The idea of letterboxing is to hide boxes containing logbooks, rubber stamps and ink pads in an interesting location. The letter box contains directions or clues and when a box is found, the logbook is stamped. The box's logbook contains a record of all of its visitors, and the hunters keep a record of all the boxes found.

Letterboxing originated in Dartmoor National Park in England and the activity is growing in popularity in the United States. Letterboxing is recommended for adults and children 7 years and older. For more information, go the Letterboxing in America Web site at www.letterboxing.org.
