AYSO youth camp


The American Youth Soccer Organization and UK International Soccer Camps will present a youth soccer clinic July 9 through July 13 at Westwood Park.


The camp is available to children between 4 and 16 years old with either a morning session (8 a.m.-11 a.m.) or afternoon (4 p.m.-7 p.m.) session.


Cost is $95.

Tennis camps available

Private and group lessons are available at Genoa Lakes Tennis Club.

Pirates seek extra players


The Carson Valley Pirates U14 boys' soccer team is looking to add several players to its roster.


Players and parents need to be dedicated and able to attend at least three practices a week.


Tryouts are set for July 8 and 10 from 5:30 to 6:30 at PiƱon Hils Elementary School.

Genoa Lakes tennis doubles league


The Genoa Lakes Doubles Tennis League begins July 9 and runs through Aug. 24 at the Genoa Lakes Tennis Courts.


Participants must be 15 years or older.


Cost is $100 per team and includes seven weeks of play on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.


A men's league, women's league and a mixed doubles league are available.

Elements soccer tryouts scheduled


The Carson Valley Elements United U12 girls' soccer team will hold open tryouts for the fall 2007 season July 11 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Stodick Park and July 14 from 10 a.m. to noon at Stodick Park.


Tryouts are open to girls ages 10 (born between Aug. 1, 1996 and July 31, 1997) and 11 (Aug. 1, 1995 and July 31, 1996) interested in competitive level soccer.

Carson Valley Soccer Club tryouts


The Carson Valley Soccer Club is conducting tryouts for its competitive fall teams on July 11, 18, 19 and 21.


All tryout sessions will be held at Gardnerville Elementary School and will last approximately two hours.


Individual team tryout schedules are as follows:


Boys U12 (born after 7/31/95) and boys U14 Earthquakes United (7/31/93) will both go July 11 at 6 p.m., July 18 at 6 p.m. and July 21 at 10 a.m.


Girls U11 Falcons (7/31/96), July 11 at 6 p.m.


Girls U12 Xtreme (7/31/95), July 11 at 6 p.m., July 18 at 6 p.m. and July 21 at 10 a.m.


Girls U13 Eliminators (7/31/94), July 11 at 6 p.m., July 21 at noon.

Fall baseball sign-ups scheduled


Sign-ups for Carson Valley Little League's Fall Baseball League are July 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. and July 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville.


Fall baseball is an instructional league for all levels (ages 5-12) designed as an alternative to traditional fall sports.


Fall ball is for baseball purists, kids preparing to move up a league, or just to work on specific aspects of their game.


Cost is $40 for a minimum of 12 games. Players must bring a valid, state-issued birth certificate and current utility bill with current address at the time of registration.


The season will run from September to October with home and away games being played at Lampe Park in Douglas County and Edmonds Field in Carson City.

Paul Millsap basketball camp


The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department is taking registration for the High Intensity Hoops Basketball Camp presenting Paul Millsap's Go Hard Basketball Academy July 30 through Aug. 2 at Douglas High School.


Millsap, a forward for the Utah Jazz, made the 2007 NBA All-Rookie Team, is an NBA Rookie of the Year candidate and led the NCAA three times while at Louisiana Tech.


The camp is for athletes in third through 10th grades and will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Cost is $210 but there is a $20 discount for each additional family member or for athletes who also participated in the Douglas Tiger Camp in late June.


The camp includes four full days of instruction. Pre-registration is required as there is limited enrollment space. Players will be asked to bring proper basketball attire, lunch and a positive attitude.




Challenger British Soccer Camp


The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department will host the Challenger British Soccer Camp from July 30 to Aug. 3 at Stodick Park for athletes ages 5 to 16.


Each player will be coached by a member of the professional British staff and will receive a soccer ball, T-shirt, evaluation, camp gift and a Sports Illustrated for Kids offer.


Half-day camp and full-day camps are available.


Early sign-up by June 15 is recommended to receive a free british replica jersey worth $30.

Douglas High soccer camp


The Douglas High School soccer program will host field and goalkeeper training Aug. 6 through 9 for boys and girls ages 6-12.


Camp clinicians include Douglas varsity girls' head coach Lorraine Fitzhugh, assistant Kelly Day and junior varsity head coach Amanda Mikulich, along with players from the Douglas High boys' and girls' soccer squad.


Cost is $100 and includes drills, micro-6 games and team games.

Youth flag football sign-ups open


The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department is taking registration for the NFL Youth Flag Football League.


Players receive a reversible NFL flag jersey, mouthpiece and individual trophy.


All games will be played on Saturdays at Stodick Park.


Participants will be divided into four age groups (5-6 coed, 7-8 coed, 9-11 coed and 12-14 coed).


Players must be at least six and not 15 by Sept. 1.


Coaches will randomly choose teams through a draft system. Volunteer coaches and sponsors are needed.


Registration is being accepted until Aug. 31 and the games will begin Sept. 22.

AYSO registration


Carson Valley AYSO is taking online registration for the fall soccer season.


The league is open to boys and girls between 4 and 18 years old as of July 31, 2007.


Certified birth certificates must be presented for check-off at the time of registration for all players.


The season runs from the beginning of August through mid-October.


Cost for registration is $75 per player.

Old Guys Basketball


Men 35 and older interested in playing pickup basketball are invited to the basketball court in the Pastoral Center at St. Gall Catholic Church every Sunday at 4 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m.


After teams are chosen, games go either full-court or half-court depending on how many show up. The sessions are strictly for fun and exercise.


Cost is $50, which is donated to the church for court upkeep. The sessions run from September to June.

Parks & Recreation looking for officials


Douglas County Parks & Recreation is looking for qualified officials for youth and adult sports in the following programs:


Youth basketball ($18 per game/Saturdays, January-March); Youth flag football ($14 per game/Saturdays, September-November); Youth volleyball ($16 per game/Saturdays, March-May); Adult volleyball ($18 per game/Monday-Thursday, fall, winter, spring); Adult basketball ($20 per game/Sundays, fall); Adult softball ($20 per game/Monday-Friday and tournaments, summer and fall); Adult flag football ($18 per game/Sundays, winter); Adult soccer ($30 per game/Sundays, spring); Adult baseball ($50 per game/Sundays, summer).


Officials must be willing to work nights and weekends and have a flexible schedule. Most games last approximately one hour. Training and certification will be provided by the recreation department and previous officiating experience is preferred. Willingness to be trained in multiple sports is also preferred.
