Eagles & Ag weekend Feb. 24

The fifth annual Eagles & Agriculture Event weekend is right around the corner and events are filling up quickly. Reservations are still available for the Saturday tour of Carson Valley ranches.

Participants will have an opportunity to observe birds of prey from vantage points not available to the general public. Motor coach transportation is included along with expert guides on Carson Valley history and wildlife. A buffet luncheon follows the tour. Limited space is also available for Wednesday's private group tour of local area ranches.

Reservations are still available for the birds of prey lecture and cocktail reception featuring keynote speaker Dr. Allen Fish, director, Golden Gate Raptor Observatory and professor at University of California, Davis.

Falconer Gene Landfather will provide a presentation with a live European goshawk and Assemblyman James Settlemeyer, R-Gardnerville, will present welcoming remarks and an introduction to Eagles & Agriculture in Carson Valley.

Wildlife photographer andinstructor and Carson Valley resident Steve Noble will conduct a photography workshop.

The Eagles & Agriculture event focuses on the influx of birds of prey who come to Carson Valley to feed during the winter calving season. The interaction between nature and agriculture attracts nature-lovers of all kinds to observe eagles, hawks, falcons, owls and a variety of other bird species.

In conjunction with the Eagles & Agriculture, there is a photography contest where $125 will be awarded for the best birding photo and $125 for the best agricultural/wildlife photo taken in Carson Valley. Photos must be submitted by March 9 to the Carson Valley Visitors Authority, photo size 5 x 7 or larger, as well as on a CD to qualify.

A photo release must be signed for eligibility.
