- Witnesses began offering testimony on Tuesday in the trial of Steven Simmons, a 27-year-old Mammoth Lakes snowboarder accused 14 months ago of robbing the Minden Bank of America branch at gunpoint. Simmons has been in custody in Douglas County Jail on $250,000 bail since his arrest the week of Thanksgiving in 2005. Page A1

- Pfc. Daniel Tingle, a 2004 graduate of Douglas High School, may be up and walking Wednesday for the first time since surgery to repair his left foot damaged Jan. 6 in a mortar attack in Baghdad. Tingle's mother, Tina Luce, said Monday her son was in good spirits despite the pain. Page A1

- The brother of Washoe Tribal Chairman Waldo Walker was killed in an automobile accident. Jason Carl Walker, 36, a member of the Washoe Tribe and a native Nevadan, was killed on Friday night when the car he was riding in was struck by a semi. Page A1

- Riverwood developer Jay Timon has completed the purchase of property near the Carson-Douglas line that county officials hope will spark a new commercial development like Carson Valley Plaza on the west side of Highway 395. Page A2

- A 19-year-old Gardnerville man was sentenced Monday to four years in Nevada State Prison for attempted grand theft. District Judge Michael Gibbons told Beau Glave he must serve a minimum of 19 months before he is eligible for parole. Page A3

- Former Douglas and Elko County Undersheriff Bernie Curtis has returned to Gardnerville to manage Sharkey's Casino. Curtis served two terms on the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and served as the casino's director of government relations. Page A7
