The R-C Morning Report

Gov. Jim Gibbons gives his first State of the State address at 6 p.m. today in the Nevada Assembly Chambers. While it's possible the local news channels will preempt their coverage to broadcast the speech live, I can't find any evidence of their plans on their Web sites this morning. The Legislature will Webcast the speech at www.leg.state.nv.us/audio/AudioVideo.cfm

The first of two meetings about the state of the Highway 395 corridor is at Jacks Valley Elementary School 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting sponsored by the Nevada Department of Transportation will only deal with the portion of 395 from Clearview Lane in Carson City to the junction of Highway 88 in Minden. The second meeting for Highway 395 south of 88 is 6:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

The weather continues to show no sign of changing over the next seven days. High temperatures will crack 50 this week, according to the National Weather Service. Lows dropped into single digits this morning, but will warm up into the 20s by the end of the week. Before sunrise it's 9 degrees in Genoa and in Minden. The Gardnerville Ranchos is a balmy 14 degrees.
