January donations stock shelves

The New Year is starting off with generous donations from the local community. Now, with the holidays behind us, once again those grocery shelves must be restocked. Thanks to the many who remember the Carson Valley Food Closet throughout the year.

The January food donations (in pounds) were: Brian and Lori Malone (150), World Gym/Minden (85), Pizza Factory/Minden (51), Horizon/turkeys (858), Russell's Mercantile (57), Orchard Antiques (65), Mike Smith (145), Douglas County Public Library (15), The Sausage Factory (500), St. Gall Catholic Church (572), Carson Valley United Methodist Church (57) and World Gym/Carson (2). Regular grocery contributors were: Scolari's, Raley's, Smith's, Starbucks, Trader Joes, Costco, 7-11 and the Pony Espresso.

Cash donations for January were: Scolari's, Charles Gebhart, Carson Valley Art Association, Jane Foraker-Thompson, Jay & Jolaine Johnson, Tonia Rhodes, Scott Imus, John Williams, Michele Lattue, Bonnie Koontz, Marjorie Hartley, Marguerite Petersen Foundation, John Chiara Ð PGE Corp. Campaign for Community, Western Title, Merrill Construction, Coventry Cross Episcopal Church, Bonnie Fettic, Marie Machetta, R.F. Edling, Wells Fargo Bank, Scolari's customers, Raley's customers and employees and two anonymous donations. Candles & Crafts has donated two large boxes of crafting supplies to be used by the Closet Crafters for their creative fund-raising projects.

A correction to December's food donations: Horizon donated 960 pounds in turkeys. It was listed as Verizon. Omitted for that month was Scolari's cash donation. We apologize for the error.

As the year continues, please remember that the Food Closet operates year round. Your donations and contributions help meet the monthly needs of qualifed families and individuals. Donations can be dropped off at 1255 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, Mon-Wed and Friday 1-4 p.m. Contact Eileen Boettiger, Director or Donna Kurtz, Assistant Director for further information at 782-3711.
