The R-C Morning Report

The weather pretty much depends on which window you look out of. Out of a window facing east you get to see a nice sunrise with a few clouds on the horizon. Look south or west, though and the Sierra are gone, obscured by clouds. The storm is rolling in and bringing some sort of moisture with it. It seems warm for snow, but the National Weather Service is still calling for an inch accumulation in the Valley today. The west side of the Valley has already had enough precipitation to get the roads pretty wet.

Snow tires or chains are being required on Highway 50 over Spooner Summit and on Kingsbury Grade, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation. Chains are being required by the California Highway Patrol over Interstate 80 and Highway 50. The Nevada Highway Patrol is aiding a motorist on Highway 50 at the 8 milemarker.

The high wind advisory is in effect until noon today. Meneley Elementary School's weather station recorded a high wind of 53 mph this morning in the Gardnerville Ranchos. The winds seem to slow down as the front boundary hits. The temperature is 39 degrees now and expected to decrease during the day.

Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School parents met last night with school officials to discuss potential cuts due to a reduction in the number of students. The school lost 100 students last year and projections are that it may lose another 100 next year. Schools in the north Valley are continuing to increase in enrollment.
