Happy President's Day. For those of you lucky enough to have today off, let the roads warm up a little before you go out. Chains or snow tires are required on Highway 395 from southern Carson City nearly all the way to Bridgeport and from William Street north to the freeway. Snow tires or chains are required between Pickett's Junction and 3 miles east of Woodfords. Snow tires or chains are required over Kingsbury Grade between Foothill Road and Highway 50. There was some precipitation over night that may have iced over the highways, so be careful out there.

Forecasters are warning residents to expect a strong winter storm Wednesday and Thursday of this week. According to a special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service at 5 a.m. today, a cold low pressure system is headed this way with high winds blowing through Western Nevada starting Wednesday. Snow levels will start ar5ound 5,500 feet on Wednesday, but will drop to the Valley floors in time for the heaviest precipitation Wednesday night. More than two feet of snow is possible in the higher elevations with accumulations in the Valley.

We had a little bit of weather over Sunday, which started on the west side of the Valley with a nice downpour in the morning. Weather stations in Fish Springs and the Gardnerville Ranchos received about .03 inches of moisture during the day. Weather for today will be partly cloudy with a high of 48 degrees with a slight chance of moisture. Tonight's low will be 23 degrees.
