Realtors award oldest member

Marjorie Springmeyer was honored on Wednesday for being the oldest member of the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors. The award presentation took place during a lunch meeting at Genoa Lakes Golf Club.

"There were only about 30 or so members in 1963," said Springmeyer. "The first meeting was held at Minden Inn. That's before we had all the different franchises.

"I've sold several ranches that are now subdivisions."

Springmeyer, 85, who was born in Carson Valley, grew up on the Johnson Ranch in Gardnerville, and now lives in Minden with her husband, Buzz. She is an advocate of obtaining real estate knowledge. She attended real estate classes and title seminars for "years and years" to keep up to date with the new real estate laws.

"I found it very interesting," said Springmeyer. "I've learned a lot. I think it's a good education. They should teach it in schools."
