Douglas High School graduate Adam Gardner received his masters of science in chemical engineering and is contemplating whether to pursue a doctorate or join a firm. Adam's conducting research into using computers to mimic molecular interactions while he serves as a teaching assistant at the University of Nevada, Reno. He is the son of Janna Smith of Johnson Lane and Ron Gardner of Jacks Valley.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported 14 contacts for domestic violence Jan. 24-30. There were seven contacts for verbal domestics, three arrests for domestic battery including two juveniles and one adult, one unfounded battery report, two referrals to the district attorney for review or prosecution for domestic battery and one referral to the district attorney for review for a protection order violation.

There were 11 contacts for juveniles. That included seven juveniles who witnessed domestic violence, two juveniles who were suspects in verbal domestics and two arrests for domestic battery.
