Tiger skiers race to fourth place

The Douglas High School ski team turned in a fourth-place finish Wednesday at the Sierra-At-Tahoe slalom run.

South Tahoe finished first overall with a team score of 333, Truckee took second with 314, North Tahoe came in third (311) followed by Douglas, Incline and Whittell.

The girls again had a strong afternoon for the Tigers as freshman Hillary Sapp completed both of her runs in 1:41.60 and Jennifer Stice came in 12th at 1:50.20.

Kristin Lovell took 19th, Jenna Dykes finished 23rd, Avery Carrig took 24th, Alicia Dreyer took 26th, Danielle Kochen finished 27th and Crystal Rutledge wrapped up in 33rd.

"Hillary has been constitently placing in the top in league races this season," coach Rob Parks said. "Jennifer Stice had an outstanding race.

For the boys, Anton Anger finished 10th with a time of 1:33.45 and Andrew Solomon finished 21st (1:41.43).

Mackenzie Bennington took 24th, Brian Sergott finished 25th and Charlie Cross (30th), Alex Ristorcelli (32nd), Kyle Neddenreip (33rd) and Michael Barnes (35th) rounded out the day for Douglas.

"Overall, it was a real tough course," Parks said. "The ski conditions are difficult with the lack of snow we've had in the Sierra.

"The hill was steep and the course was long and it took its toll on the racers. Many of our racers did well despite the conditions."

In the junior varsity races, Kate Neri took seventh and Cassie Parr took ninth for the girls and Kevin Sacherman (6th), Eric Dugan (7th), Craig Swartz (14th), Darren Vega (15th), Joey Gmuender (17th), Trevor Nenzel (20) and Ryan Dykes (31st) competed for the boys.

Douglas next heads to Alpine Meadows Thursday for a giant slalom event.
