Christmas tree recycling

Douglas County Parks & Recreation is recycling Christmas trees.

The county is working with Douglas Disposal and South Tahoe Refuse, who will provide curbside pickup of trees.

n How to recycle a Christmas tree:

1. Place the tree next to the trash can on normal pickup day: Dec. 31-Jan. 4 in Carson Valley and Dec. 31-Jan. 11 at Lake Tahoe. Residents who do not have trash pickup may put their trees out with neighbors who do.

2. Drop the Christmas tree off at one of the following collection sites: Lampe Park on Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville, Johnson Lane Park on Stephanie Way, Ranchos Aspen Park on Muir Drive in Gardnerville Ranchos, Topaz Ranch Estates Park on Carter Way in the TRE area, the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Pinenut Road, Zephyr Cove Park on Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove or Kahle Park on Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50.

To protect workers and equipment, remove tinsel, lights, nails and stands from the tree before dropping it off.

Flocked trees will not be accepted because they gum up the chippers.
