Bail lowered for one in drug case

The alleged driver of the vehicle containing a record 9 pounds of methamphetamine said Wednesday she had no idea what she was transporting.

Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl lowered bail for 57-year-old Valdene Roberts from $150,000 to $10,000 cash on the condition she be on house arrest if she bails out. Attorney Matthew Ence said it's his client's intention to fight the charges.

Roberts told the judge she'd never been arrested and didn't use drugs or alcohol. She was one of three people arrested by the Street Enforcement Team and the Tri-Net Drug Task Force on Saturday.

A Jan. 18 preliminary hearing was set in the case.

The two men arrested with Roberts, Crispin Pacheco, 35, and Nayo Orozco, 22, are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 4. Both men are in Douglas County jail on immigration holds.
