Set for college football games

For all the college football fans out there, it has just begun. There were a total of 32 bowl games scheduled this year, and there are still 26 more to be played. My TV doesn't seem to know how to find anything else to watch, except possibly professional football games. Actually, it is a lot of fun and very relaxing to me, because I don't have much to worry about except watching the games and making sure I feed Mike, so he doesn't faint in front of the set from malnutrition. Enjoy them, fans.

Health clinic

The Mono County Health Nurse will be at the Walker Senior Center this Friday, noon to 1 p.m. If you want a vaccination, you still have time to call them at (760) 924-1830 to advise them which one you want them to bring for you.

Senior center

bus trip

Dec. 16, two buses with 25 local residents made the trip to Reno to see "The Spirit of Christmas" at the El Dorado Hotel. Everyone I have talked with really enjoyed the excursion and the performance. There will be more trips in the future, so plan on checking them out.

Coleville High School basketball

The Coleville High School Wolves basketball teams are on a holiday break for 8 more days. The boys' and girls' teams will play their next games Jan. 4 in Virginia City, with games the next day at Coleville High's gym, starting at 4 p.m. They are both off to a good start, so let's keep supporting them.

Walker Thrift Store and Recycling

The Walker Thrift Store and Recycling Center will be closed for the holidays until Jan. 2, when they will reopen at their regular time of 9:30 a.m. The Senior Citizen Workshop, which directs the operation of the store and recycling, has recently elected a new board of directors to oversee the operations. Longtime volunteer and most recent Chairman of the Board Doris Jones has resigned to relax and enjoy some free time with her husband, Roger. Please go by the thrift store and see the treasures there for such reasonable prices.

Topaz Lake Fishing Derby

This annual event begins again on New Year's Day, with many good prizes for the successful anglers. Get out there and have a ball, all you fishermen.

This and that

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have a very safe New Year's holiday planned with friends and family.
