Happy holidays from Johnson Lane

Nanny Huff called me a couple of days ago. She and her son were frantically searching for her beloved white toy poodle named Frity who ran away from home last week. Although they searched for him way into the wee hours of night, he didn't come home. He is blind in one eye and desperately needs medication.

It has been so cold outside that a little dog who only weighs 6 pounds needs to be brought home to his mama, so if you have seen him, or know where he is, please call Nanny at 267-2498.

A couple of friends named Danny and Cathy Barnes brought Nanny a 3-month-old teacup poodle that is tan-colored for Christmas after they heard she had lost her baby.

Leftovers

What do you do with all of the left over turkey? I make enchiladas. Here is how I do it:

With a half-gallon Ziploc bag of shredded turkey, I mix a large can of green enchilada sauce, 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup and a half a handful of cilantro. Campbell's soup is the best to use.

I heat up about 8 of the soft-taco sized flour tortillas in the microwave. Then I stuff them with the mixture and some jack cheese. Roll them up and put them in a lasagna-sized pan. When I fill the pan, I top it with the same sauce. So you may need another can of green enchilada sauce and 2 more cans of cream of mushroom soup.

After you put the sauce on top, add more cheese and some thinly sliced black olives. I serve this with refried beans and salad and of course, guacamole and sour cream with chips and homemade salsa. Oh how much my family hates to have leftover turkey. Enjoy.

Birds

Do you feed the wild birds in the winter? Many people I have spoken with recently feed the birds in the winter. It appears they are lacking in food, so if you make the commitment to feed them, they will come.

Make sure you feed them consistently, so they will stay here in the Valley.

Fill your bird baths with water every day. What I learned in my daughter's second-grade class is how you coat a pine cone with peanut butter then roll it in bird seeds. I have never seen the birds so happy.
