JV Basketball: Lady Tigers sweep week

The Douglas High junior varsity girls' basketball team completed a sweep of last week's three home games, topping Fallon 57-21 Saturday.


Douglas allowed just eight points through the first half, relying on a strong effort from its defense to jump out to a 26-8 halftime lead.


The Lady Tigers rode an 18-point third and a 13-point fourth to the win. The defense gave up just two fourth-quarter points.


Edna Meza led the team in rebounds with 10. Ne'Jae Jackson swiped eight steals and led the team in scoring with 12 points.


Susie White, Meza and Sara Mangiaracina each had eight points while CJ Baumgartner added six, Briana Rutherdale had five, Niki Hamzik and Jessica Burtt each put up three and Julia Miller and Emily Weaver each had two.


On Friday, Douglas blasted Lowry 61-31. The Tigers got up 16-7 in the first and extended the lead with a 20-8 second quarter. As a team, Douglas game up with 28 steals and 38 rebounds in the game.


Jackson led the team with 25 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Hamzik had nine points, five rebounds and two steals, Mangiaracina had had six points, six rebounds and seven steals and Burtt added five points and three rebounds.


Weaver, Baumgarterm White and Rutherdale each had four points.
