At the Lake: New mayor, school board president to be chosen today

The South Lake Tahoe City Council is scheduled to select the city's next mayor today. The council is expected to replace Kathay Lovell, who has served as mayor for the past year, with Mike Weber, who has been the mayor pro tem.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. in council chambers at the Lake Tahoe Airport.

And in another changing of the guard, Lake Tahoe Unified School Board members elected on Nov. 6 will be sworn into office at today's board meeting.

The meeting convenes at 6 p.m. in the LTUSD Education Center Board Room at 1021 Al Tahoe Blvd. Incumbent Sue Novasel and newly elected members Larry Green and Michael Doyle will take the oath of office at the meeting.

After the oath, the annual organizational meeting will be held to determine board president, clerk and other various committee positions.

In other action, Principal Ivone Larson will present a progress report on the South Tahoe High School 4-by-4 schedule that was instituted in the 2006-07 school year.

Chief Fiscal Officer Debra Yates will present the first interim financial report for the current school year. The interim report summarizes expenses from July 1 to Dec. 31. After the presentation, the board will vote on the report.
