Library offering financial literacy training

The Douglas County Public Library is offering a six-class financial literacy training program beginning Jan. 10 and continuing on six consecutive Thursday evenings.

This program is targeted toward low-income populations and those most in need of improving financial literacy skills.

The six-week program will cover money management, basic banking, managing credit (and credit reports), predatory lending (payday loans), taxes/deductions, and home buying. Training will be offered in budgeting, saving money, establishing or improving credit, money safety, and fraud protection.

Applications to attend and information on this program are available at the Douglas County Public Library in Minden and Zephyr Cove, Douglas County Social Services, Douglas County Senior Services, the Washoe Tribe, and the Family Support Council.

Applicants must complete the form and submit it to the Douglas County Public Library by 5 p.m. Dec. 31. Those accepted into the program will be notified in advance of the first class.

The Financial Literacy Training program is jointly sponsored by the Douglas County Public Library, Nevada Literacy Office, and Nevada Rural Housing Authority.
