The R-C Morning Report

We went right past winter storm watch and straight to a heavy snow warning issued at 4 a.m. The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy snowfall in the Sierra and most of Western Nevada today and Friday. Snow levels are expected to fall today and moisture from the system is expected to wrap around keeping the threat of snow through Friday.

According to the Weather Service radar, the main storm is still northwest of Susanville, but a smaller pulse is passing between Reno and Carson City. It will be rain this morning, but the temperature is expected to drop tonight in that perfect zone between 30 and 34 degrees. The weather graph shows precipitation turning to snow at about 11 p.m. tonight.

Road conditions are clear this morning but anticipate a sloppy commute Friday morning. If you're going into the mountains, break out the chains. Heck, if this thing turns out as advertised, you might need them in the flatlands, too. Take it easy on the roads and try to enjoy our first big storm. Unless it fizzles, in which case we can all have a good laugh at the Weather Service's expense.
