Girls' Basketball: Coleville opens with win

The Coleville girls' basketball team opened its season Friday with a 35-13 win over Big Pine at Coleville's Antelope Valley Lions Club Tournament.

Senior guard Amara Rowley led the Wolves with 15 points, seven steals and six rebounds. Senior forward Kimberly Torley added five points, seven rebounds and six steals in a solid effort.

Kassie Pemberton had four points and six steals and Kimberlee Curti had four points and four steals.

Skyler Isbell led the team in rebounds with eight.

The Lady Wolves last the championship game of the tournament to Whitttell, a 2A school, 32-30.

Colveille struggled at the line, hitting only 10 of 30, and missed several key layups, which proved to be the difference in the contest/

Whittell limited Rowley to eight points. Torley led the Wolves with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Molly Garcia and Pemberton had four points each.

Isbell grabbed nine boards and scored three points.

"Although we lost in the second game I thought we executed much better both offensively and defensively than the night before," Coleville coach Will Sandy said. "We did a good job rebounding both nights.

"We have to really improve our free throw shooting and we can't continue to miss lay-ups if we are going to compete for a top playoff spot."

Coleville travels to Whittell Tuesday before heading to Eureka on Friday for a two-day tournament.
