Jonni Hill will keep on keepin' on in Minden

In the next few weeks, The Record-Courier will be looking for my replacement for this column. It was a long thought out and very hard decision to make but, for all good reasons, B.J. and I have decided to move to Minden.

I am going to miss writing this column. I have enjoyed being with all of you in TRE so much. I want to thank each and every one of you for the support you have given me in the past couple of years. I have had a great time, met some awesome people and thoroughly enjoyed sharing these special experiences with all of you.

I won't be a stranger to the area though. My mother lives at Topaz Lake and my son, Michael, still lives on Granite. B.J. and I will be back to see everyone.

There are still quad rides in the Pine Nuts to be done with the boys, camping at Desert Creek, boat rides on Topaz Lake and stops at Topaz Joe's for saying hello. We will be around.

I will still be working at The Record-Courier and you can contact me for calendar items as well as occasional south county feature stories.

I will continue to write the Sweetwater Notes column until a replacement can be found.

Anyone interested in doing the weekly column should contact People Editor Sharlene Irete, sirete@recordcourier.com or Editor Kurt Hildebrand at editor@recordcourier.com or call The Record-Courier, 782-5121.

Labor Day weekend

Just a reminder: Topaz Volunteer Fire Department 40th annual barbecue will be noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 2 at Topaz Lake Station 5, 1990 Austin St., Topaz Lake. The traditional deep-pit barbecued tri-tip, a variety of salads, deserts and side dishes, along with a no host bar with soft drinks and water also available.

Entertainment will be provided by Buffalo Country with country classics, old and new, to dance to or just kick back and enjoy. There will be a huge raffle with many wonderful prizes and many chances to win. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Anyone wishing to donate raffle items, remember, the money raised at this fun-filled event goes to provide needed equipment for the department and helps our volunteers provide even better service for our community.

For more information contact Chief Dave Thomas, (775) 691-8709 or one of our other Topaz Volunteer Fire Department members.

Monthly breakfast

And as always, until next week, we all just need to keep on keepin' on.
