Adjutant general to speak at 911 dinner

Nevada National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Cindy Kirkland the will be the speaker at the annual Sierra Nevada Republican Women's 911 Commemorative Dinner.

Kirkland has held the adjutant general position since June, 2005. She is the military chief of staff to the governor and responsible for both federal and state missions of the Nevada National Guard.

Kirkland is a Sparks resident. She holds an associate's degree in applied science from Truckee Meadows Community College and a bachelor's of science degree in business administration from the University of Nevada, Reno. She is also a graduate of Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College and Air War College.

Her previous positions include: Standing Joint Force Headquarters Chief of Staff, Nevada Air Guard Chief of Staff, State Public Affairs Officer for the Nevada Guard, 152nd Communications Flight Commander, Executive Officer to the 192nd Reconnaissance Squadron and Airfield Management Technician. She is also a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

The dinner will be at Genoa Lakes Golf Club in Genoa starting at 5 p.m. Reservations must be made by Sept. 4. Cost per person is $30. Meal choices are chicken marsala, pork tenderloin or halibut.
