Public invited to stargaze from home ranch park

Nevada State Parks is inviting the public to view the evening sky through telescopes at the Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden.

Park rangers and the Astronomical Society of Nevada will be on site 7:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, to help people learn more about the night sky.

The event is free and open to the public.

Members of the astronomical society will distribute star charts, give a short presentation, show visitors the planet Jupiter, the crescent moon, the Milky Way, nebula and more.

People are advised to bring a blanket, lawn chairs, a light jacket and a nonalcoholic beverage.

A portable restroom is available on site.

Home Ranch Historic Ranch, the original Dangberg Ranch, is located in Minden on State Route 88, approximately one mile south of Douglas High School. When approaching from the north on State Route 88, turn right on the dirt road with the Park Land & Cattle Co. sign, just after crossing the river.

When approaching from the south on State Route 88, turn left at the Park Land & Cattle Co. sign, just north of Waterloo Lane, passing the veterinarian office.

Drive slowly, as cattle may be on the road. The ranch house is located approximately a half-mile from the turn-off.
