A 42-year-old Orange County man died during a boating outing on Lake Tahoe Tuesday afternoon.
Officials believe that Kurt Regitz died of a medical condition while riding behind a motorboat in a raft near Tahoe Vista.
His friends, one of whom owns a home in Tahoe Vista, performed CPR on Regitz after he fell from the raft and had trouble swimming back to the boat, said Shannan Moon, a Nevada County Sheriff's sergeant.
The U.S. Coast Guard and a Sierra Boat Company vessel responded to the scene at just after 1 p.m., said U.S. Coast Guard Chief Mate Daniel Bennett.
Regitz was taken ashore and loaded into an ambulance that drove to Tahoe Forest Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Moon.
An autopsy, scheduled for tomorrow, will determine the cause of Regitz's death, said Moon.
