Smokey the Bear will be at the Douglas County Public Library for the 64th anniversary of his creation. The big guy who reminded us that "only you can prevent forest fires," will be at the Minden branch at 6:30 p.m.

Open auditions for the Dakota Organization's production of "The Nerd" will be conducted 6:30 p.m. at 1669 Lucerne St. today and Thursday. There will be cold readings of the script for the play, which will be performed Nov. 9-11.

Whatever is pinning these cool temperatures down over Western Nevada is welcome to stick around for a bit. The high today will hit 88 with the low tonight in the upper 40s. The mercury will struggle to hit 89 on Thursday and Friday and then finally barely clear 90 over the weekend. Today will be mostly sunny with the wind picking up to 10-15 mph in the afternoon and gusting to 25 mph at times.
