• There were 45 teams totalling about 850 participants in the 10th annual Douglas County Relay for Life fundraiser at Lampe Park. More than $100,000 was donated to the American Cancer Society for cancer education, advocacy, patient services and research. Page B1

• Soccer players are rallying to help out Carson Valley Middle School ninth-grade player Jessica Vega, who was stricken by Guillain-Barre syndrome in spring. The girl, who has been playing soccer in the Valley for more than a decade, is recovering after being paralyzed from the knees down. Page C1

• Douglas High School starts falls sports tryouts on Monday in preparation for the beginning of school. All participants must attend a drug, alcohol and tobacco presentation 6 p.m. tonight, if they haven't already. Page C1
