Dorothy Fordham

1937-2007

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville for Dorothy Fordham, 70, who died July 26, 2007, at her Minden home.

She was born March 10, 1937, in Kalispell, Mont., to Frank and Olive Smith. A resident of Minden for 16 years, she moved to Carson Valley from Seattle. She received her associates degree in accounting from Orange Coast College in California and worked as a budget manager for a Southern California school district. She married Leith Hooker in 1995 in Minden. Fordham was past president of Carson Valley Women's Golf, member of the Silver Oaks and Empire Ranch Women's Golf, member of the Emblem Club, the Audubon Society and Duplicate Bridge Club of Gardnerville and Carson City. She loved to go fishing, camping and birding.

She is survived by her husband Leith Hooker of Minden; sons and daughters-in-law Orlyn and Janice Fordham of Gardnerville and Eric and Cheryl Fordham of Lakewood, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law Bea and Johnny Dyer of Kalispell, Mont.; as well as four grandchildren.

Arrangements are in the care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Burial will take place at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Douglas County Senior Center Building Fund.

Leon Shuler

1918-2007

A memorial service will be held in Aldrich, Mo., for Leon Shuler, 88, who died July 29, 2007 in Gardnerville.

Born Dec. 23, 1918, in Aldrich to Albert and Ella Shuler, he briefly attended Springfield University on a basketball scholarship, before he was injured. He moved to Southern California to be near his brother, where he went to work for Bell Telephone. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, and served in WWII and the Korean War. He then returned to California Bell, working in California and Nevada until retiring in 1977.

Real estate kept him active for the next several years until his wife also retired then enabling them to travel by motorhome throughout the Midwest to visit family, as well as taking trips to Alaska, Mexico, Canada and Israel.

Moving from Las Vegas to Gardnerville, the Shulers became actively involved at Living Word Christian Fellowship.

A memorial service there will be announced at a later date.

Preceding Mr. Shuler in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters and his first wife, Virginia.

Survivors include wife, Frances of Gardnerville; daughters Elizabeth Ortiz of Santa Clarita, Calif.,and Margaret Shuler of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; four granddaughters; nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Internment at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery will follow the service.
