Nevada rural water projects get boost

Today, U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-Carson City) announced $150 million has been authorized for Nevada rural water projects in the Conference Agreement on the Water Resource Development Act (H.R. 1495).

"Funding for rural water projects is vital to the quality of life in our local communities. As one of the driest states in the nation, water is a precious resource in Nevada. Helping small communities better manage their water resources is critical to the state," said Heller.

The Rural Nevada Program is designed to benefit small communities and provide assistance for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, environmental restoration, and surface water protection projects.

"I want to thank Senators Reid and Ensign for their strong leadership in helping secure this funding to assist the many rural communities throughout Nevada," added Heller.

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on the Water Resources Development Act conference report before the end of the week.
