Carson girls soccer beats Reno

The Carson High girls soccer team was able to achieve one of its goals, finishing the regular season unbeaten with a 1-0 win over Reno High on Tuesday at CHS.

CHS finished the year 16-0-1 and 11-0-1 in the Sierra League. Carson coach Randy Roser said his seniors were on a mission to finish the regular season undefeated. "That was their goal to go undefeated," he said.

But Carson would obviously like to stay unbeaten for three more games, which would mean a Northern 4A title. The Senators open the playoffs at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Elko at Galena.

Reno will open the playoffs against defending zone champion Galena. "Reno's playing really well," Roser said. "I think they're going to be a handful for Galena."

Danielle Benamati scored the only goal of the game. After Reno was unable to clear the ball, Carson took control and Benamati ended up one-one-one with the goalie and was able to score. "We pretty well controlled the whole game," Roser said. "We're playing really well."

Roser said he'll take his team's effort on Tuesday in the playoffs. "We want to be able to play like we did tonight," he said.

Roser did say it was tough to break through Reno's defense. "They're well organized," he said.

Carson had its share of chances, including a couple in which Krista Wisbar was able to cross passes in front of the net, but the Senators weren't able to place a touch on the ball.

Carson's defense of Sammy Valerius, Anna Macquarie, Belle Fleming and Krista Wisbar was able to limit Reno's chances. Goalie Alli Otto posted the shutout.

Roser also praised the play of Benamati. "Danielle Benamati had a great game," he said.
