Carson City

Doggie manners taught at Fuji Park

Teach your dog to obey commands in a six-week session beginning at 6:30 p.m. today at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall. Each dog needs a choke chain and a fabric or leather lead. Dogs must be at least 4 months old and current on their shots.

Seniors may sign up now for computer classes

The Carson City Senior Center will offer a 16-hour course in WORD, the Microsoft word processing program. The class will meet Wednesdays and Fridays, from 1-3 p.m. beginning Wednesday.

The course deals with editing and enhancing text. This is not a beginner's class.

Students should be proficient with starting programs, opening and saving files, and selecting text.

The $40 tuition fee covers cost of material used in the class. The class is limited to the first eight students who apply and pay the fee in the Business Office.

The next basic "Introduction to Computer" session will start Nov. 7 and will meet either from 9-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays or from 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Fee is $40 and must be paid at time of registration in the Business Office. All reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Senior program seeks volunteers

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is seeking volunteers to help transport seniors to medical appointments, shopping and other errands.

Needlework artist's work shown, sold

A special show and sale of needlework and other art pieces by Faye Lyle will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada.

Lyle was an artist and teacher in the Carson City schools until her death in 1990.

Her son, George, has donated some of her special collection to the Children's Museum. Most of the collection will be sold at silent auction. Music will be provided by The Silver Strings and refreshments will be served.

Admission is free.

Big-band jazz coming to Comma

Comma Coffee presents "Autumn Jazz," a program of big-band jazz for listening and dancing from 8-10 p.m. today.

General admission is $5 at the door; $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association; and free for ages 18 and under. Dance instruction from 6-7:30 p.m. is $5 additional.

Airstream Club October rally starts Thursday

The Sierra Nevada Unit of the WBCCI Airstream Club will rally in October at Davis Creek Park group camping area. Arrive on Thursday afternoon and spend a weekend with Airstream owners and anyone who has an interest in these "Silver Bullets."

Potlucks will be shared, S'mores will be created and all kinds of information and tall tales will be exchanged.

Come for one day, one night, or the whole weekend. Watch the wildlife, or take a side trip to Bowers Mansion, or Virginia City.
