Detectives continued the search Sunday for the gunman involved in a shooting that left a 16-year-old Carson City boy with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Alonso Rangel, 16, of Carson City was shot during a fight in the 1700 block of North Carson Street Saturday evening that was believed to be gang related, according to Detective Brian Humphrey.
The fight began at a birthday party in the old Alano Club just after 9 p.m. between rival gang members from Carson City and Reno. The argument spilled into the parking lot, where a member of the Reno gang allegedly pulled a handgun and fired between one and three shots, according to Humphrey.
One of the shots struck Rangel in his upper-right chest. Friends took him to Carson-Tahoe Hospital at 10:27 p.m., and he was then taken by Care Flight to Washoe Medical Center in Reno.
Despite numerous witnesses, the shooting was not reported to police until Rangel arrived at the hospital, and the exact cause of the argument is still unknown, Humphrey said.
"We have some leads on it. We are in contact with the Reno gang unit and following up with them," Humphrey said. "But we are not getting a lot of help from witnesses."

Rangel's condition was not being released at press time.
