Carson baseball duo picked for preseason All-American tournament

Carson High can boast of not just one, but two preseason All-Americans heading into the 2006 baseball season.

Outfielder Royal Good and shortstop Kevin Schlange have been chosen for the Baseball Factory and Team One's Puma USA All-American Tournament to be held Jan. 13-15 in Tucson, Ariz. Good and Schlange were among 190 players out of 5,000 who tried out from across the country to be chosen for the tournament. Good and Schlange were chosen based their performance at a tryout they attended recently in Vacaville, Calif.

The 190 players will be split up into 12 teams, who will play in the wood bat tournament that will be attended by Major League scouts and college coaches.

Last season as a junior, Schlange hit. .370 (40-for-108) with two home runs, three triples, 10 doubles and 35 RBI. In league, Schlange was 26-for-60 with 26 runs scored and was an all-Sierra League first team choice.

Last year as a junior, Good hit .333 (31-for-93) with three home and 19 RBI as a leadoff hitter. In league, Good was 18-for-58 with 22 runs scored and was an all-league second team choice.

Good was also the most valuable player after going 2-for-3 in this past summer's Kelley Showcase, which displayed Northern Nevada's top juniors and sophomores from last season. Schlange was 1-for-2 in the showcase.
