Donald Virgil Shipman

A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Donald Virgil Shipman, 73, of Yerington, at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Therese Church of the Little Flower, 875 E. Plumb Lane in Reno.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary to follow at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington.

Mr. Shipman died Nov. 16, 2005, at his home. He was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Turlock, Calif., to Virgil and Stella Shipman.

Mr. Shipman served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He worked for Kaiser Cement Corp. as a heavy-equipment mechanic.

He was an avid motorcyclist and volunteered on the restoration of the historic locomotive for the Copperbent Railway at the Railroad Museum.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Alice, on May 30, 2005.

Among his survivors are his sons and daughters-in-law Ed and Kate of Santa Fe, N.M., Tony and Vicki of Cottonwood, Calif., Ronald and Kristie of Stockton, Calif.; daughter and son-in-law Donnice and Fred Walter of Modesto, Calif.; sons Donald of Saratoga, Calif., and Eric of Reno; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Entombment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
