Holly Burton, Abby Niehoff and Tallon Rauch captured high-point trophies in their respective age groups for the Carson Tigersharks during their own Sextathlon Invitational multi-event swim meet over the weekend at the Carson Aquatic Facility.
The invitational featured a format in which swimmers entered six events, with points awarded based on times. Points ranged from 1 to 1,150 - with a total of 800 closely representing a U.S. Top 16 reportable time for a particular age group. The total points of each swim were combined to determine the top three finishers in each age group for girls and boys.
Burton won the 8-and-under girls age group with 4,008 points, the highest total of any individual competing in the meet. Burton swam to first-place in her 50 freestyle race with a personal best time of 34.10 seconds that was worth an impressive 780 points, plus she won the 100 I.M. in 1:26.09, a personal best by more than two seconds and worth 762 points. She also won the 25 freestyle (15.93) and 25 butterfly (16.97).
Niehoff won the 13-14 girls age group high-point trophy with 3,512 points. She won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:09.42 second, 100 butterfly (1:01.09), 100 backstroke (1:04.74), 50 freestyle (26.18) and 200 individual medley (2:17.24).
In the boys competition, Rauch won the 8-and-under high-point trophy with 3,116 points. Rauch won the 50 freestyle in a personal best of 36.29, worth 717 points and the 25 freestyle in 16.60.
Very little separated Kevin Dyer and Matt Grunert, who placed third and fourth in the 15-16 boys division with respective totals of 2,175 and 2,169 points. Dyer swam to first-place in the 500 freestyle in 5:00.70, while Grunert placed third in 5:11.07.
Hilary Schlager placed third in the 17-18 girls division with 1,970 points and Barbara Perkins was close behind in fifth with 1,864 points. Perkins placed second in the 500 freestyle with a 5:32.09 clocking, followed by Schlager in fourth at 5:35.42.
Josefina Sigala of the Douglas Dolfins was second in the 17-18 girls division with 2,765 points. Sigala won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.61.
Caroline Suh placed third in the 13-14 girls division with 2,584 points. She placed sixth in the 500 freestyle in 5:50.08, a personal best by eight seconds.
Hannah Burton took third in the 11-12 girls with 2,418 points, as she won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.09 and swam to second-place in the 500 freestyle in 6:12.62.
Michaela Gillenwater placed third in the 9-10 girls division with 2,931 points. Gillenwater placed second in the 50 breaststroke in 41.24, a personal best by one second, and placed fifth in the 50 butterfly in 35.05, a personal best by three seconds.
Rebekah Niehoff placed sixth in the 15-16 girls division with 2,364 points. Niehoff and Tatum Boehnke went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle with respective times of 5:22.68 and 5:26.76.
Jessica Fahrenbruch placed sixth in the 11-12 girls 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:25.33 that lowered her personal best by six seconds.
Hunter Burton finished sixth in the 8-and-under boys division with 2,070 points.
