Rita Oviatt

A celebration of life for Rita Oviatt, 80, a Carson City resident for more than 45 years, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Oviatt died Nov. 2, 2005, at Merrill Gardens in Gardnerville. She was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Bad Oberdorf, Germany, to Alois and Therese Ammann. She came to the United States in 1948, and she lived in Boise, Idaho, Elko, Las Vegas and Carson City.

Mrs. Oviatt was affiliated with the Sierra Sage Shrine No. 3, White Shrine of Jerusalem. She held the title of Honored Lady of Carson No. 1 Masonic Lodge. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Carson Auxiliary 1006; Leisure Hour Club of Carson City and the Kit Carson Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 3726 and the Sierra Club. She was a longtime member of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, where she donated many hours over the years.

She was a charter member of the Ponderosa Baptist Church and later attended the Good Shepard Wesleyan Church in Carson City, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and attending Bible classes. She enjoyed all music and loved singing, dancing and traveling. She enjoyed animals, particularly cats.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willard "Bud", a Carson City chiropractor; sisters Susanne Maugg and Josefa "Pepi" Ammann; and brother August Ammann.

Among her survivors are sisters Anni Mattes of Germany and Waltraud Wermelinger of Switzerland; several nieces and nephews; stepson and daughter-in-law Douglas and Karen Nickson of Bellevue, Wash.; and stepson William Nickson of Walnut Creek, Calif.

Following the service, burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery and a reception will be at the Carson Senior Citizens Center, Tahoe Room.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
