Seniors don't have far to look for fun and entertainment in Carson City. The Senior Center has everything from tai chi to Happy Senior tours.
If you think this place is somewhere you just sit around, you'll be surprised to find that the center provides a variety of activities. If you like hiking, gardening, watercolor, or country-western line dancing, check out their Web site. You name it, they have it.
If that doesn't sound like enough activity, check out the Carson City Recreation Department.
They have some great classes, such as learning to golf with pro Terry Gingell, or check out Kurt Meyer's swim program for seniors.
Jerry Vance does a sweat shop every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. Also for seniors are SHAPE which is a senior resistance program taught by Flossy Nelson.
While you're at the Web site, check out the youth camps and programs available this summer for all ages. It includes more fun and adventure for all age groups.
Listening to the younger age group in town saying there is nothing to do, in some ways I agree. There aren't enough free activities here in Carson City for teenagers.
If your child is looking for some fun and entertainment, but you're on a budget, check out the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada. It has an abundance of activities, special events and field trips planned for summer.
Any boy or girl aged 7 to 18 may join. Membership fees are $10 per year, and scholarships are available if you can not afford that. Starting June 13, the club will be open 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays.
Also a big welcome to the new director, Hal Hansen. He has made a big difference in children's lives in Arizona, so let's all lend a hand in helping him get a new club built here.

John and Debbie Nolan stopped by my office and dropped off a dozen new outfits for middle school graduation.
As well as helping students go to the prom at Carson and Pioneer high schools each year, the Carson City School District Homeless Program makes sure middle school students look great for graduation.
To help, call the schools directly or call me and see what you can do to sponsor an eighth-grader who needs appropriate clothing to graduate.
A big thank you to Carson City Soroptimists and Patt Quinn-Davis for helping us purchase 10 yearbooks to give out as graduation presents to students who cannot afford to buy the $60 memento.
It was wonderful last year when we gave them to the seniors, plus a $50 gift card. Most could not believe they received the yearbook, let alone a present.To purchase a yearbook for a graduating senior, the number is listed below.
