Daughters of Norway fete Syttende Mai

The Daughters of Norway Queen Maud Lodge No. 42 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1201 N. Saliman Road.

Syttende Mai is Norway's constitution day and is usually celebrated May 17. The program will include a visit by a famous Norwegian poet, Bjornstjerne Bjornson, who wrote the words to the Norwegian national anthem. It was dedicated on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the constitution in 1864.

Founded Oct. 20, 2001, the group presents programs to preserve Norwegian heritage; to maintain knowledge of the history, culture and language of Norway; and to build a support system and friendship within the group.

Women are invited to join the lodge that are of Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic heritage or who are married or have been married to a Norwegian, etc.Call 883-1710.

Preserve memories with help at workshop

Learn how to preserve your photos and memories and receive tips on writing your life's story from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday in the Pinion Pines Room at the Carson Senior Center.

Dance with the world Friday at Comma

World Dance Open Floor Night at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. will start at 7 p.m. Friday Performances start at 8 p.m.

Gardnerville

Small works on sale by art association

Carson Valley Art Association artists will be displaying miniature paintings for sale May 20-July 18 at the East Fork Gallery in Gardnerville. All paintings are size 5-by-7 inches or less and in oil and watercolor medium. The paintings are being judged and ribbons will be displayed on the winners.

An artists' reception will be from noon-5 p.m. Sunday. There will be hors d'oeuvres, drinks and a door prize. The public is invited.

Heritage Run benefits breast cancer foundation

The Heritage Run Benefit is returning to Carson Valley, May 21-22 at Heritage Park in Gardnerville. Nonprofit organizations, the Silver Knights, Blue Knights, Choir Boys, 11th Calvary and Carson-Tahoe HOG are sponsoring the event.

All proceeds will benefit the Northern Nevada Affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation with money raised benefiting the Carson Valley community.

This two-day event will feature an all-vehicle poker run on May 21. Sign-in begins at 9 a.m. with the poker run immediately after. All hands must be in by 3 p.m.

Pre-registration for the Poker Run is $25; morning registration will be $35. Poker Run registration includes a poker run entrance fee, run pin, T-shirt, barbecue and five raffle tickets.

The fun continues Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live entertainment both days begins at noon.

General event entry is free, $10 will buy a barbecue meal plus five raffle tickets.

A new 2005 Fatboy will be raffled at 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 each.

United Blood Services will conduct a blood drive on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park. There will also be a craft fair.
