Nevada broke open a 2-2 game with seven runs in the middle three innings en route to an 11-5 Western Athletic Conference victory against Louisiana Tech Thursday night at J.C. Love Field inRuston, La.
The win upped Nevada's record to 13-10 overall and 2-2 in WAC play. Louisiana Tech dropped to 11-18 and 3-4.
Nevada scored once in the first and once in the second to take a 2-0 lead, but the Bulldogs bounced back with two in the third.
The Pack scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth o take a comfortable 9-2 lead.
Dayton's Matt Bowman walked to open the fourth, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Eric Newman (3-for-5, RBI).
Brett Hayes (2-for-6) tripled to open the fifth and Jacob Butler walked. Butler stole second, and Ben Mummy's ground ball to first was misplayed, allowing Hayes to score and Butler to reach third. Butler scored on Baker Krukow's fielder's choice to make it 5-2.
Hayes started another rally in the sixth with a drive down the line in left sending Carlos Madrid, who had walked, to third. Madrid scored on Butler's sacrifice fly. After Mummy reached on an error, Krukow singled home Hayes. Bowman drew another walk, loading the bases. Shawn Scobee, who homered earlier in the game, doubled home two runs to make it 9-2.
Nevada tacked on two more in the seventh when Mummy homered to left-centerfield, his fifth round-tripper of the season.
Louisiana Tech reached Tim Schoeninger (3-4) for one more run in the eight and two in the ninth. Schoeninger, a transfer from Nebraska, allowed seven hits and struck out five in his route-going performance.
Newman led the Pack offense with three hits. Hayes and Scobee added two apiece. Five of Nevada's 12 hits went for extra bases.
