Carson City

Citizenship classes begin April 2 at library

Carson City Library will offer citizenship classes in English beginning April 2 from 10-11 a.m. in the library's auditorium. The Saturday classes will run for 12 weeks. Preregistration is required. A $20 donation to the Library Gift Fund is suggested. Donations will be used in the development of the Spanish and the English as a second language collection.

Staff member Javier Ramirez, himself a naturalized citizen, will facilitate the citizenship classes. His focus of the classes will include U.S. history and a review of information on the citizenship examination. According to Ramirez, "This service is being offered to fill a need in our community." The classes will be conducted in English, which will allow students who speak different native languages to assimilate together. For information, contact Javier Ramirez, 887-2244 ext. 1025.

Benefit flea market set for April 2

The Eagles Lodge will host a benefit flea market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 2 at the lodge, 1380 E. Fifth St. in Carson City.

All proceeds go to the spinal injury charity fund.

Carson Valley

Entry-level amateur radio license class begins March 29

SIERA will offer an entry-level amateur radio license class beginning 6:30 p.m. March 29. The class will meet at the Carson Valley Methodist Church each Tuesday for eight weeks .

All invited to annual 4-H Dog Fun Match

Cooperative Extension's 4-H Happy Heelers Dog Club invites everyone to join them at the annual Dog Fun Match, at 9:30 a.m. April 2 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 922 Dump Road, Gardnerville.

Watch the dog competition, free of charge. Participants do not need to be members of 4-H.

Classes will include obedience, showmanship, and all-breed and mixed-breed conformation. In addition, there will be a costume contest, which is always a crowd favorite, and a best-trick contest.

Pre-entry is required for the obedience class. Pre-entry fees are $5 for the first class and $3 for each additional class. Participants who register the day of the event from 8-9 a.m. will pay $6 for the first class and $4 for each additional class. All proceeds will benefit the Happy Heelers 4-H Dog Club.

Fun matches help youth learn responsibility and give them a chance to practice and perform what they have learned.
