Carson City supervisors on Thursday postponed a vote on new rules for recreational vehicles until "minor changes" in the new ordinance's language can be made.
The new ordinance, consolidating several RV-related rules into one city code, would limit streetside parking of motor homes and trailers to 72 hours per month in the summer months. From Oct. 1 to March 31, RVs and trailers would be allowed to park on city streets only while loading or unloading.
An RV parked on private property would have to sit at least 12 feet from the resident's property line.
Several local residents showed up at the supervisors meeting to voice their displeasure with the proposed ordinance. Three days of streetside parking in one month, said Carolynn Crowdis, is not enough to load, unload and clean traveling abodes that are regularly used.
Another measure that would limit traveler's gratis time in parking lots of box stores like Wal-Mart to three days isn't good enough for Carson City RV park owner Gene Lepire.
"That's not Carson City's business to provide overnight stays without the amenities I have to provide," he said.
Still another Carson City resident, Keith Holland, would like to see the new rules relaxed.
"You want to keep Carson City RV friendly," he said, "because if you don't, they'll just go down the road."
Supervisors said the next draft of the rule will, in effect, be identical to the one submitted Thursday.
