John F. Sunderland

A funeral Mass for John F. Sunderland, 63, a Carson City resident for the past 34 years, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Mr. Sunderland died June 28, 2005, at his home. He was born Sept. 14, 1941, in Spear Fish, S.D., to Fielden and Ruth Redinger Sunderland.

He attended high school and two years of college.

He married Olga Malinski on July 2, 1966, in Norfolk, Va.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Philadelphia for several years.

Mr. Sunderland was credit manager for PiƱon Plaza and Carson Station casinos for the last 10 years.

He was credit manager of the Ormsby House from 1971 to 1988, a former cashier at Harveys Casino at Stateline and credit manager for Comstock Casino in Reno for several years.

He enjoyed reading and working in his garden.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; son Jason and companion Paul Murray of Glendale, Ariz.; son Eric and fiancee Tina of Carson City; sister, Kathleen Thorne of Stateline; brother, Lance of Carson City; and granddaughter, Kristin Sunderland of Reno.

Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
