Frank Koontz

A funeral for Frank Koontz, 94, a Reno resident since 1949, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at O'Brien-Rogers and Crosby Funeral Home, 600 W. Second St., Reno.

Mr. Koontz died June 12, 2005. He was born May 4, 1911, in Los Angeles.

Mr. Koontz was past president of the 20-30 Club of Fullerton, Calif.; veteran of the Coast Guard Intelligence as a first-class petty officer in World War II from 1942 to 1946.

He worked for the Fullerton Police Department from 1937 to 1942 and the Orange County Sheriff's Department from 1942 to 1948; was captain of the Civil Division with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office from 1949 to 1970; supervisor of the Washoe County Clerks Office from 1970 to 1976; and retired and worked part-time as marriage commissioner from 1990 to 1999.

He was a member of the Municipal Motorcycle Officers Association of California; Reno Host Lions Club; Reno Lodge F&AM No. 13 Masonic and Scottish Rite Body and Kerak Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ilma; son, Barry; brothers Ray, Raleigh and Jess Koontz; and sisters Ethel Eckells and Leola Koontz.

Among his survivors are his daughters Katherine Schepple and Gwen Brickell; nephews, Ray, Howard and John Alexander; nieces Claudia Casagrande and Deanna Furtney; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family requests donations be made to the SPCA of Northern Nevada, 850 E. Fifth St., Reno.
