Volunteers sought for fire department

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP is seeking volunteers for the Carson City Fire Department.

The Carson City Fire Department works 24 hours a day, seven days a week and their administrative work never ends. Sign up by calling the RSVP office at 687-4680, ext. 6.

All ages welcome at open-floor night

Ali Baba's Belly Dance Productions will host a World Dance Open Floor Night on Friday.

Bring your favorite dances from India, Thailand, Germany, Tahiti, Argentina, Russia, Egypt, Spain, Algeria, Tibet, Turkey, Brazil, Japan, Hungary, Lebanon, etc. Bring a tape or CD for your performance. Maximum performance time is 10 minutes.

Signups start at 7 p.m. Dancers start at 8 p.m at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St.

Tasty fund-raiser helps local shelter

Downtown Carson City will hold its 12th annual Taste of Downtown fund-raiser, offering samplings from the best of 27 area restaurants, from 5:30-9 p.m. Saturday.

The charity event raises nearly $30,000 for Advocates to End Domestic Violence, a Carson City-based nonprofit that operates Northern Nevada's largest shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Tickets are $30 at Sugar Pine Cove Gift Shop, 1087 South Carson Street; Classy Seconds Thrift Store, 411 Hot Springs Road; and the Advocates' office. Call 883-7654.

Virginia City

Business mixer to be held at school

The Historic Fourth Ward School Museum in Virginia City will host the Northern Nevada Development Authority membership networking mixer and new member orientation June 22 at the museum.

From the birth of the Comstock in 1876 to the modern interpretive center created in 1986, the restored historic school is the pride of Virginia City and the Comstock Chronicle, one of Nevada's oldest newspapers.

New-member orientation is from 4-5:30 p.m. with the membership networking mixer from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Douglas County

Senior center host Bingo games

Young at Heart Bingo will be held on Sunday at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane.

Doors open at noon. Early bird games start at 1 p.m. and regular games start at 1:30 p.m.

You must be 21 years or older to play. Progressive game for June is $350 and 53 numbers. The pot will increase by $50 each month and one number; if not won, the game continues for black-out for one half of the take for the special progressive game. There will be free coffee and snacks; hot-dogs and chili will be sold at the snack bar.
