Donation box set up for family of 2-year old drowning victim

A donation box has been set up at the Jack in the Box at 309 E. William St., for Veronica Rodriguez, the mother of the 2-year-old girl who drowned Saturday.

"We want to help her with the funeral and all those expenses," said Adela Castillo, assistant manager at the store. "She's going through a lot of sadness."

Two-year-old Dianna Rodriguez died early Sunday morning after she became separated from her cousins and grandmother Saturday and fell into a creek near Lepire Hill.

She was found about 3 p.m. floating in Eagle Creek east of Edmonds Drive. Attempts to revive the toddler were unsuccessful.

Rodriguez has worked for Jack in the Box for nearly three years, first at the South Carson City location then at the store on William Street.

"She's very nice," Castillo said. "She's very happy all the time. I know she's going through a bad time."

Her co-workers knew immediately they wanted to help the family.

"We were shocked," Castillo said. "We couldn't believe what happened. It was very sad.

"She's our friend, so we decided to collect a little."

The box will be set up at the front counter of the restaurant.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today at Walton's.

Among her survivors are her mother and father Juan Carlos Rodriguez; brother, Joshua Minchaca, and grandmother, Josefina Ralla, all of Carson City; grandparents, Jose and Adela Mendoza Rodriguez of Mexico and uncle, Miguel Minchaca, of Carson City.
