Communication arts day camp for hearing-impaired

Two weeks of fun-filled, language enriching learning activities, designed especially for deaf and hard-of-hearing children, will be offered from July 25-29 and Aug. 1-5 at Mills Park and Carson High School. Daily transportation is provided.

The camp is for school-aged children and limited to 75 participants. Activities will include: daily practice on telecommunication devices such as TTY's, Internet relay, video relay and "711"; visits to the library, swimming pool, fire department, museums, state capital buildings and The Deaf/HH Advocacy Resource Center.

There will be storytelling by deaf adults, students and staff and community-based activities. Other activities include multicultural art activities, a spelling bee, a workshop on how to use an interpreter, rights of deaf people, deaf history culture, outside games, a play and a cookout.

A full agenda will be sent out to all applicants late this month. All deaf and hard-of-hearing children are invited. Due to the nature of the camp program, all participants and helpers should be able to sign.

Free lunches for children offered at Ron Wood

The Ron Wood Family Resource Center is participating in the Summer Food Service Program and providing free lunches and snacks to children through age 18. All children are eligible at no cost or qualifications.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and snack is from 2 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the resource center at 212 E. Winnie Lane.

Fun games and program activities will be held for kids from 12:30-2 p.m. through Aug. 19. For more info, call Ada DeZerga at 884-2269.

The center is also holding a WIC Farmer's Market from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on Thursdays from June 16-Aug. 18 at 212 E. Winnie Lane. Free vouchers for the market can be obtained by WIC clients for attending appointments on time, going to nutrition workshops or completing case goals. One-day hepatitis C session scheduled

Two free, one-day training sessions featuring Alan Franciscus, founder and executive director of the Hepatitis C Support Project, are July 27-28 in Carson City.

Two courses left this month at Family to Family Connection

Family to Family Connection provides both infant and toddler workshops for parents and their children. Infant workshops are for parents with babies birth to 1 year.

All workshops are free and held from 10-11:30 a.m. The remainder of this month's courses are: Tuesday: "Infant Obstacle Course"; and June 28: "Sex, Love and Babies - Life after Birth."

Dean's list attained

Sarah Glaser of Virginia City has been named to the dean's honor list at Eastern Washington University for winter quarter 2005.

To qualify, a student must carry at least 12 credits and achieve a grade- point average of 3.5.

Sylvan Learning Center launches live online tutoring program
