A family picnic in the Moffat Open Space Property off Lepire Drive turned tragic for a 2-year-old girl around 3:30 p.m. Saturday when she was found floating in Eagle Creek, a run-off that flows into the Mexican Ditch.

It is unknown how long the girl was in the water.

"She was unaccounted for a total of about 15 minutes," according to Chief Deputy Steve Schuette. "There was a large group of kids playing and when they returned, the girl wasn't with them."

The girl was given CPR at the scene and rushed to Carson-Tahoe Hospital where a pulse and heartbeat was re-established, according to Schuette.

She was later flown by Care Flight to Washoe Medical Center in Reno.

The condition of the girl and the identity of her and her family have not been released.
