School superintendent to recommend new principal for Seeliger

After four years as principal of Seeliger Elementary School, Laurel Terry left to become the English as a Second Language coordinator for the school district.

The new administrator recommended to fill her spot comes from within the Carson City School District and will be presented to the Carson City School District board for approval at tonight's meeting.

Carson City School District Superintendent Mary Pierczynski will recommend Lee Conley, assistant principal at Empire Elementary School for the past four years, as the next Seeliger principal.

Conley has been in the district for 10 years and has substituted administratively at several district schools.

"He has a proven track record of being a good classroom teacher and he's done a good job for the school district in his assistant principal position at Empire," Pierczynski said. "He works well with parents and students and staff members at Empire. The committee felt confident he can lead Seeliger."

The school district's committee interviewed six people, both in and out of the district, for the job. Pierczynski said all were qualified.

Final approval of Conley will be up to the board. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Terry will be working at the professional development center, where she will coordinate the district's ESL program.

"She has always been interested in curriculum and curriculum development," Pierczynski said. "We're happy she's staying in the district. She's not leaving us. She wanted a new adventure."

The district will be taking applications to fill the vacant spot at Empire left by Conley, assuming he is approved by the school board tonight.

The district will also be seeking a person to fill Pat Beckwith's assistant principal position at Bordewich-Bray Elementary School.

He will become principal of Virginia City High School in the Storey County School District.
