120 YEARS AGO

The will of Mrs. Emily Casement, known for years as "The Fire Queen" and who died in Colfax last Thursday, was filed for probate in Placer County. During the '60s, she resided in Carson and was a well-known character in Western Nevada. There are many who, remembering her many acts of charity to the poor and needy, will regret to learn of her death.

100 YEARS AGO

Every indication now is the Carson, the city of brotherly love, large shade trees, beauty experts, truthful fishermen and enterprising citizens, will celebrate Labor Day. The final meeting of the Reno unions will be held at Riter's Hall next Sunday.

70 YEARS AGO

Two fires today threatened Silver City, Gold Hill and the Virginia & Gold Hill Water Co.'s flume and at the time of going to press, several hundred men had been summoned to fight the flames advancing in front of a heavy wind.

50 YEARS AGO

Against a background of the High Sierra and the Truckee River, the picturesque wedding of Ann Parrish and Charles Lawson McCarty was solemnized in the spacious garden of the Elm Court home in Reno of the groom's mother, Mrs. Geo. B. Thatcher, Sunday afternoon. She and her groom left for a wedding trip to the Hawaiian Islands.

20 YEARS AGO

Mayor Dan Flammer said today that steps are being taken to improve health conditions at the Carson City Jail, even though current practices have not led to any health problems among inmates. Following a controversy earlier this week over the sharing of jail razors by a number of prisoners, Flammer said the jail will look into the purchase of disposable razors.

10 YEARS AGO

The Regional Planning Commission approved requests for zoning property at East College Parkway and Lompa Lane for light industrial use, opening the door for an executive golf course on the site.
