Independence Day events

• Annual Pops in the Park concert at Mormon Station Park, 10 a.m. to dark. Call 782-8696.

• Virginia City Fourth of July Parade and fireworks. Parade begins at noon at the Fourth Ward School followed by fireworks at dusk. Call 847-0311.

• Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band performs at 2 p.m. at Piper's Opera House in Virginia City. Tickets $10 adults, $5 youth 5-16; box seats $25. Tickets available at the door; call 885-8320. The performance is a benefit to raise money to send the band to Glasgow, Scotland, to compete as the first Nevada representative at the prestigious Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association's World Pipe Band Championship.

• July Fourth Yard Sale at the Roberts House Museum, 1207 N. Carson St., 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Features antiques, art, collectibles, handmade and vintage jewelry, glass, coins and crafts. Call 887-8865.

• Ride the Rails at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Includes rides on steam trains and firing of the Inyo locomotive 10-11 a.m. Call 687-6953.
