Readers on Iraqi elections

Should the Iraqi elections proceed as planned?

The Iraqi elections need to proceed as planned. Giving in now, the terrorists win. Even if only 40 percent of the people come out and select their president, that's a victory for the people. So the elections should proceed.

Yes. And regardless of what happens, we should get out troops out immediately since they should never have been there to start with. Then Bush should be held accountable for the destruction, death and casualties of 100,000 men, women and children of Iraq and the United States. He should have to face a world tribunal as a war monger and face the consequences along with Cheney and Rumsfeld, also known as the three stooges.

Raymond, Carson City

No, we have no control over the country. Any election now would be viewed as just another illegitimate American puppet government. We should pull out and let the UN or the other Arab states form a government over there because we appear incapable of doing it.

Richard, Carson City

I believe we should go ahead and have those elections on time because to do otherwise would be cowardly, I think.

John, Gardnerville

Sure, let the election go ahead as planned. There's no way. It doesn't matter how long you have to wait. These people live to fight. There's no way an election is going to go off good anyway.

Gary, Carson City

I think so. Those people need to know what law and order are. I'm tired of those people over there trying to kill our American soldiers. We're just there to protect them. We need to get those insurgents out of there by brute force and violence. That's the only thing those (people) understand.
